A few of weeks ago I had a conversation with a friend of mine about being scared to go higher in her business. The what if’s began popping up. What if people don’t buy? What if I lose the clients that I have? What if I’m not worth it?
My response: “Do you believe it or is it your ego?”
See, there’s a part of you that wants to go all in and play full out in your business. Then there’s another part that says, “Whoa! You can’t do that! It’s different. That’s not safe. Stay right where you are.”
That’s your ego talking.
After some hemming and hawing, I flat out told her, “Your ego is pimping you out.” Imagine my surprise when I realized a week later I was on that same corner.
How to determine your job description.
Your ego will keep you trading hours for dollars, your time for another’s pleasure, and your self-respect for a word of praise. You’ll take any client that comes along dangling a dollar out the proverbial window.
This is entrepreneurial prostitution.
When you sacrifice your future to satisfy your now. When you do what you don’t want to rather than going after what you do…Your ego is pimping you out.
Stop the insanity
My friend and I are not isolated instances. Many women would rather suck it up and deal with it, than risk hurting someone’s feelings, telling them no, or “being disagreeable”. As women we do it all the time — with our spouses, our children, our friends. So naturally it rolls over into how we deal with our clients. It’s time to stop the insanity. If you want something different you have to do something different.
Trust yourself and the universe and know that you were created for more. Please yourself first. This is how you up your game. It’s not about servicing more clients, it’s about serving the right ones.
Change your actions, change your results.
