From teenager to baby boomer and beyond we all want to be rebels.
We want to be free to be whoever we want. Go where we want, when we want. We desire to be self directed, answering to no one. Our inner rebel craves to be unique and yet the vast majority of us end up being exactly like everyone else.
I grew up in a small town and when I was in high school there was one weekend activity, (and I’m sure it hasn’t changed) go to a parking lot, someone’s house or the middle of nowhere and get drunk. That was cool, that was bad and that was being a rebel but today I want to talk about how to be a real rebel.
First, let’s nail down the definition of a rebel.
Another teenager at a party,
another employee cutting corners,
another silent spouse,
another yelling parent,
another being rude in traffic,
another complaining about life,
another eating junk food,
another couch potato,
another coasting through life,
another cow in the herd is NOT being a rebel.
Rebels stand out.
If you are serious about being a rebel you better be ready to turn heads, kink necks and be talked about. And you FOR SURE better be ready to stand alone.
throw out the TV,
smile at strangers,
share with the poor,
visit your neighbors,
eat real food,
spend time alone,
challenge the status quo,
appreciate what you have,
honor your parents,
acknowledge your soul,
live from your heart…now that’s RADICAL!
Everyone wants to be a rebel, many think they are, but there’s only a handful that are the real deal.
Are you marching to the beat of your own drummer or have you found yourself back in the herd?
Are you one of the brave souls who have exited off the freeway and are plowing your own path or are you still listening to the “experts”?
