I know people always mean well. They want to keep us from safe from danger and free of failure and well, keep us from looking foolish. (It’s too late in my case;)
One of the responses I often get is this…
Go get it out of your system.
In other words, I don’t agree with what you’re doing, but since you’ve already made up your mind, go do it so we can get on with things!
I’ve been thinking about this statement and I’m thinking I’m not the only one who hears it so this is what I say.
Living overseas and working with kids will be easy to get out of my system. Just about as easy as it would be for me to work having brown eyes out of my system.
Or being Monique.
Or being 5’8″.
Or having curly hair.
Or liking heavy cream.
Or taking long naps.
Or my entire DNA.
So the next time someone tries to tell you that you just need to get it out of your system, remember that you were never meant to get who you are out of your system.
Being who you really are and doing what you love were never meant to be temporary, in fact they are permanently a part of you. The question is, will you allow yourself to forget this? Will you cave to what the masses tell you? Will you get it out of your system?
Take wrong turns.
Try new things.
Take the scenic route.
But whatever you do, don’t get it out of your system!
Hungry for More, Monique Alvarez p.s. If there are typos, spelling or grammar mistakes in this post don’t worry about. Those are the kinds of things I’ve worried about for FAR too long. It’s time to just get it out and who cares if it’s not perfect, it’s from the heart!
“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”
