It’s hard to believe, but I guess what they say is true…time flies when you’re having fun!
Today I was busy cleaning house and setting up the guest room for a friend that is coming to visit us. Derek must have seen that making lunch wasn’t high on my priority list so he suggested we go out to eat and run last minute errands together.
We walked three blocks down to the water where our favorite “fast food” restaurant is. They have these amazing grilled chicken pitas and we love to pair them with their Greek salad. Derek grabbed a Coke for himself and a sparkling water for me. We watched the clouds roll by and the ferry leave for Corfu as we enjoyed our feast.
When the bill arrived Derek told me lunch was a whopping seven bucks.
As we walked down the boardwalk we joked about how seven dollars barely covered one Starbucks coffee in San Diego! A few minutes later when we arrived at the supermarket we were surveying the wine section because we thought it would be fun to get some champagne. The friendly manager unlocked the glass case and showed us a bottle. Being the “expert” that I am, I said, we’ll take it, because I liked the bottle. On our way home I checked the receipt and found the champagne was less than five dollars.
One of the best things about living in Albania is that it’s cheap – real cheap.
If you have champagne taste, but want to live on a beer budget I definitely recommend living overseas. Albania isn’t the only place you can do this. Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, India, Thailand, Romania, and Macedonia are just a few of the places you can live on $1500 or less a month. I want to add, this doesn’t mean being confined to a matchbox sized apartment either. It includes local sightseeing, eating out and nice accommodations (often times walking distance from the ocean) all without being worried about money.
So what are you waiting for?
Hungry for More, Monique Alvarez *Have you downloaded my free ebook, The Hungry Soul’s Manifesto? It’s all about remembering what’s important in life – creating purpose and passion, instead of just passing the time amassing stuff. p.s. If there are typos, spelling or grammar mistakes in this post don’t worry about. Those are the kinds of things I’ve worried about for FAR too long. It’s time to just get it out and who cares if it’s not perfect, it’s from the heart!
