A couple weeks ago I flew out to Clearwater Beach, Florida to spend the week with my mom. She is a Nutritionist and had some training there and invited me out. The back story is that this was going to be the last time we’d see each other before Derek and I leave for Albania next month.
She is graduating the same week we are packing up and leaving the country. We couldn’t coordinate Christmas so then we thought of spending my birthday together. She had already finished her regular classes when I arrived but there was a special event that we both attended and the topic of the symposium was all about how we are the protectors of the next generation.
I’m going to give you a disclaimer right now, this is going to be a l o n g post. As in 1,200 words. But, if you are a person that believes we are all connected and that the next generation is everyone’s responsibility, stay with me.
I don’t have children and I don’t have plans of having children but I see every child as my child. I spent five years of my life volunteering in orphanages overseas because I am deeply committed to children. The reason Derek and I are going to Albania is so I can do that work again. I literally cannot live another day being so disconnected from my mission in this lifetime.
Many don’t understand how I can care about children and not have any of my own. For me it’s simple, I’ve seen too much, I’ve felt too much, I can’t have children of my own when I know just how many kids are already here that have no one to take care of them. I also can’t see how I could take care of these children and my own and do what I found was mine to do on this “birthday trip” to Florida.
If you’ve ever been set up by the Universe this story will make perfect sense to you. You know the situations when you think you’re doing something for one reason and find out it was for a completely different purpose?
Well, this symposium consisted of about a dozen Medical Doctors, Naturopathic Doctors, Nurses, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists and Nutritionists. Each of the speakers has experienced their own awaking, realizing that traditional western medicine is not only not getting us healthier, it’s killing us. Each of them were incredibly passionate and it was obvious they were born to do what they are doing. And each of them took a different angle on the subject of our children and their health.
I might be stating the obvious but, we are a sick country and our children are paying the price for the actions of the last 2-3 generations.
When I was working in the orphanages I often experienced the cultural beliefs when it comes to orphans. Most countries view orphans as a shameful part of their society. Most see them as someone else’s responsibility. Most would say, I didn’t do it, not mine to deal with. We have a twist on this in our own country. We believe we can do whatever we want because it’s our life. We don’t see how our actions impact everyone, for generations to come.
I want to share, at least some of the things that are causing obesity, diabetes, depression, hyperactivity, cancer, Autism, asthma, food allergies and the list goes on and on.
It starts with food. And the truth is very few Americans eat real food. In fact most would tell you they do eat real food, like cereal and orange juice for breakfast and McDonald’s for lunch, and Hamburger Helper for dinner, all washed down with coffee, soda and Red Bull. Many think they are doing well because everything in their fridge is fat and sugar free. The truth is people are poisoning themselves and their children three times a day, every day.
My friend Malika Duke has said this many times and the speakers did too: The scariest part about eating fake food for years is that you literally lose your ability to make good decisions about food. It’s an addiction that has affected our guts and brains. Modern society sees real food as poison and fake food as medicine.
The foods that are most prevalent in the American diet today are dumbing us down.
This isn’t by accident, it’s by design. We have to be dumbed down in order to say yes to vaccinations, antibiotics, prescription medication and anything else the Dr. recommends. Then you add to that our overexposure to EMF’s through power lines, cell phones, computers, microwave ovens, electric blankets…it’s no surprise we are where we are.
So where do we go from here? We all have to educate ourselves.
Taking care of our own health and raising health kids is a serious commitment. It’s no longer enough to want to have children and to be dedicated to loving them and putting a roof over their head. Modern society and all it’s consequences are forcing us to go to a much deeper level.
Parenting today requires some serious preparation and long term thinking. It’s going to require lots of reading and research. It’s going to take helping each other and sharing resources. It’s going to take time and money to prepare the best foods.
The current medical (and drug) powers that be, have it over on parents today. They have them running scared. And this is only because we haven’t taken the time to get our own “Ph.D”.
I’m going to leave you with a few resources to get you started but I see this as my next assignment. I will be working on a comprehensive guide that will empower us all to take care of the next generation.
First off, I would get a “health care provider” that is enlightened. You want someone who gets all this, not someone you are constantly fighting against. As a side note, if insurance is involved, disease is what makes money. Find a Dr. that runs a cash business and is not in a circle that benefits when you get and stay sick. My mom is one of these practitioners and can help you find someone in your area, send an email to Dyanna@TheAbundantLifeCortez.com
Secondly, you want to master food. What is real food, how to prepare it and where to buy it. I recommend contacting Malika Duke. She is raising a family of five on the cleanest, wildest, most organic, free-range, grass-fed food out there. She’ll show you how you can do it too. Email her at Malika@MalikaDuke.com
Last but not least, if you are even considering having a child you’ll want to meet Kaitlin Parmenter. She is all about bringing birth home and how to do that. Yes, we have turned having babies into a business that does the opposite of what mom and baby really need. Email her at kaitlinrose@bringbir
Now for a couple must read books that you’ll want a copy of:
Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon
Prescription for Nutritional Healing
Ok, I think that’s all for now. We’ve all got work to do. We can’t afford to let things continue as they have…we have to do better for the next generation.
And thank you Mom for going so above and beyond to give me the gift of good health! <3

p.s. If there are typos, spelling or grammar mistakes in this post don’t worry about. Those are the kinds of things I’ve worried about for FAR too long. It’s time to just get it out and who cares if it’s not perfect, it’s from the heart!
